Koji Kashin retreats from battle after seeing that Boruto has a "Karma" mark on his hand. Shortly after, Team 7 discovers a battle site where a boy lies unconscious. Much to everyone's shock, the boy possesses the same mark as Boruto.

Boruto and the others learn that the boy named Kawaki is the target that Kara has been seeking. They watch on as a battle rages between Kawaki and the Kara Outer, Garo, and are shocked by the young man's capabilities.

Boruto and the others return to the technology lab to contain and watch over Kawaki while Konohamaru returns to the Leaf Village to report the events of the mission to Naruto.

Wounded and hungry, Kawaki escapes from the tech lab and makes his way to a nearby town to find food. Sumire tracks him down, believing she can help him. Meanwhile, Naruto begins making his way to the area to meet with Kawaki himself.

Kawaki collapses and is tormented by nightmares from his childhood. As a child, Kawaki endured an abusive father, until one day a man appeared before him— none other than Jigen, the leader of Kara.
